Bonjour America!
About one year ago, we came across the irrepressible Vinvin and his trans-Atlantic video show "Bonjour America!" Since that day, this exuberant Frenchman, whose real name is Cyrille de Lasteyrie, has treated us to his thoughts on Clint Eastwood (very positive), his commentary on the Oscars (Reese Witherspoon talked too much—this, coming from a motor mouth), and his portrayal of the most hyper Santa Claus in the history of holidays. Now, to our everlasting sadness, Cyrille has closed shop on his vlog. When we caught up with him over email, we asked him how much work really goes in to such well-crafted video posts and what other humor he likes online: How much time does each episode take to produce? How do you keep the ideas flowing, the energy hopping, and the edits as smooth as you do? OK, Picks. One episode takes ONE DAY. One hour for the writing. Two hours to shoot. Three hours to edit. But sometimes I need to prepare, to find wigs, to find funny places. Or to go to L.A. and this takes a lot of time. The ideas generally come between 4 and 6 in the morning. My brain is at its top during the insomnias, when the rest of the country is sleeping and when I can walk naked in my house without being observed by the neighbors or my kids. Ooh la la, Vinvin! When you were in L.A., you met Amanda Congdon, who once ran Rocketboom and inspired you to start a vlog. What other sites do you like, video-casts or not? You must know that I'm founding a producing-broadcasting company for the Web, and I intend to be the first in Europe. Then I could sell it to a big American company, buy a house in Los Feliz and have [unprintable unprintable unprintable] with Reese Witherspoon. Seriously, I'm both very influenced with the British humor and Canadian productions such as as Têtes à Claques and La Coeur à Ses Raisons. It's a pity that you can't speak French because this is very funny. I'm preparing something bigger, with a French TV star, a show that we are going to present together, in English, for the Anglo-Saxon world, I mean for you, PICKS!!!!! If you liked Bonjour America, you will LOVE the next one, in September on the Web and other medias... We're holding you to that, Cyrille. But even without Bonjour America, you will always be the French Robert de Niro to us. Au revoir, Vinvin!
