The Wurstminster Dog Show
Once a year, the Westminster Dog Show prances out in all its preening and pomp. Now, the Wurstminster Dog Show has also trotted on the scene—and it's ready to inspire as many oohs and aahs as its Kennel Club equivalent. Online art gallery The Wurst invited a diverse group of artists to create a work starring a dog breed for a Portland animal-hospital benefit. The results ran to a pack of more than 140 pieces, each as whimsical or realistic as its creator deemed fit. Whether your favorite pup is more Boston terrier or blood hound, you'll find something here to enjoy. One artist played up the long curves of the dachshund, another, the shapely dignity of a borzoi. Porcelain pointers, ceramic retrievers, cartoon Samoyeds, and terriers in pillow and crocheted shapes woofed it up. They're all so wonderful, it would be almost impossible to choose a best in show. And why bother when there's so much love in the air.
