Independent Lens Online Shorts Festival The PBS series Independent Lens launches its first festival of online shorts with this lineup of quirky, charming, and sometimes nervy films. An ailing sea urchin diver swims among the sharks and seals off California's coast. A "mountain artist" labors at a massive (and messy) tribute to God. A beaming octogenarian cultivates 15 acres of craggy desert land. Though wildly different from each other, the films share an unquestionable zeal for life. In "Homeless Karaoke," the denizens of L.A.'s Skid Row participate in an outreach program notable for its boisterous rhythm. And we dare you to resist the performance of Miss Moneyhenny, the scene-stealing fowl of "Chickens in the City." We have to tell you, though, these were just the runners-up. PBS will broadcast the two grand-prize winners tonight on TV and tomorrow online. Judging by the films they beat out, the final pair are well worth the return visit. (in Short Films)
