George Barris, King of Kustomizers Without George Barris, the Green Hornet would still be waiting for his ride. Television's first Bruce Wayne would be left stranded. And Jethro, of Beverly Hillbilly fame, would be behind the wheel of something infinitely less flashy. The Barris creations didn't just go to the drivers of TV history, either. Thanks to George, some lucky dog got to pilot the Cosma Ray, another slipped behind the wheel of the '74 Bugazzi, and a car enthusiast comfortable with purple metalflake revved up the Kargoyle. Constitutionally incapable of accepting what the dealer has to offer, the "king of kustomizers" starting modifying cars at an early age. His first project was a 1936 Ford convertible. Now, all these years and coats of Kandy Tangerine later, he's still at it—and proving that even a hybrid can look hot. (in Automotive) |
