Bob Dylan Imitation Contest Several of them perform onstage or at curbside. A few vocalize from the sides of their beds. One appears to be intoning from within a suburban mall. But all of them stepped up for The Seattle Post-Intelligencer's Bob Dylan Imitation Contest earlier this month. And though the competition is over and done with (congratulations Eric Nelson!), we decided it must be a Pick nonetheless. The lineup of video clips is too marvelous to miss; the contestants—23 in total, ranging in age from 20 to 62—too pitch-perfect or achingly off to ignore. Among the ranks aspiring to be tangled up in blue, a bartender, a network engineer, a pipe fitter, and a puppet all belt out selections from Dylan's songbook. Two contenders describe themselves as artists. Five register as musicians. Clearly, all of them are died-in-the-wool fans of America's gravelly-voiced, famously enigmatic singer. May each continue to strum and sing into the jingle-jangle morning.
Extra thanks to our friends at The 9 for turning us on to this raft of Dylan wannabes. (in Rock and Pop)
