15x15 Andy Warhol predicted that, in the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes. Now that the blog-driven, digital image-fueled, on-demand future is here, Warhol is looking awfully smart. In homage to the artist and his notorious adage, 15x15 encourages you to take steps toward your own quarter-hour of celebrity. Use your camera phone to capture your handsome ole mug or anything else you feel like recording (keep it clean, please). Then email or upload the video to the site. For 15 seconds, 15x15 will exhibit your clip alongside other fame-seekers. (In the future, 15 minutes shrinks rapidly to 15 seconds.) But who knows what will come of it—already, there are plans to show the images at an interactive media symposium in Istanbul. Of course, this begs the question Warhol got all the time: Is this art? 15x15 thinks so. "Art was once the domain of the privileged, wealthy and famous," they say here, "but no more." (in Web Art) |
