Girl-Wonder.org Girls read comics. They don't comprise the majority of the audience. Maybe they make for the slimmest minority. But they're reading, and some of them have grown up to get political, get PhDs, and get pissed about the way their favorite comics depict women. That's where Girl-Wonder.org comes in. Committed to "demanding better" for women throughout the comics realm, this newly launched site finds its rallying cry in the story of Stephanie Brown. For those unfamiliar with Gotham's mean streets, Stephanie served as one of Batman's crime-fighting sidekicks. But in 2004, she was brutally murdered. The way that DC handled the killing, and subsequently dropped any mention of Stephanie, really bothers the contributors behind Girl-Wonder.org. They have devoted themselves to her tale—and to the other superhero-obsessed girl readers out there. Because, as the site says, "Capes aren't just for boys." (in Comics & Animation) |
