Anatomy of a Classic You don't have to watch "Project Runway" to know how fickle fashionistas can be. One day you're in, the next you're out, yadda yadda. But certain clothing items transcend the catwalk's frenzy to become timeless and eternally cool. Style.com, online home of Vogue and W, hosts this ongoing examination into some of fashion's most classic looks. Currently showcasing four tours, it takes us through the style history of the scarf, the little black dress (or "LBD"), the loafer, and the trench. Some of the modern world's most glamorous stars appear along the way: Audrey Hepburn, Jackie O, and Grace Kelly all tied on the scarf (which invariably required another classic: the convertible); Katherine Hepburn, James Dean, and Rosie the Riveter slipped into the penny loafer; and both Garbo and Deneuve flipped the collar on their trench coats and buttoned up the chic factor.
