Japanese Spider-Man Submitted for your lunchtime perusal: a live-action Japanese Spider-Man TV episode from 1978. Yes, it's kind of a time commitment, but this lost classic from PistolWimp is so very worth it. In what must have been the inaugural show, the origins of Japan's answer to Peter Parker are revealed. No radioactive spiders here, but plenty of crash-landing spaceships, massive robot battles, totally rad motorbike jumps, and a crocodile monster that is not to be trifled with. Plus, a heartfelt scene by a river where Spider-Man's mentor dies, but not before revealing the existence of a big metal bracelet that shoots rope and makes you jump high. East (Transformers, giant "Gila monsters") meets West (fistfights, motorbikes) in this super-entertaining cultural mash-up. Yeah yeah yeah woah! (in Classic TV) |
