Pool Hustlers Since 2002, Brooklyn-based photographer Christopher LaMarca has whiled away many an hour at The Golden Q Billiard Cafe in Queens, New York. During that time, he's befriended pool hustlers, card sharks, and well drinks (neat), all of which he captures in lush, colorful pictures. Browsing these images feels like slipping into a noir film. There's the burning cigarette, the tough blonde, and the lone man in a narrow pool of light. As this old world gives way to over-lit sports bars and after-work martini-serving joints, LaMarca's pictures pay tribute to a clearly beloved subculture in the moment before its decline. Also be sure to check out his other portfolios, especially the images from the Republic of Guinea. (in Games) |
