Alvin Lustig, Modern Design Pioneer One of the most important figures in the history of modern design died before he reached the age of 41. Alvin Lustig, a man who believed "religiously" in the "curative power of good design," is largely responsible for marrying the principles of modern painting to the practice of graphic arts. Now, the Alvin Lustig Archive has pulled together a collection of photos of his work and insightful essays about key aspects of his career. Lustig's iconic book jackets and magazine covers were fresh and exciting, and have wielded a lasting influence on book design. But Lustig viewed his skills as a means to improve the world and refused to limit himself to one practice. His work in architecture, furniture, fabric, and advertising also broke ground.
