The Streets of Pizza: True Tales of Deliverance The Pizza Man prowls the streets of Minneapolis and St. Paul, dropping off pies and picking up stories. He chronicles his escapades on a gritty blog (hosted by local alternative weekly CityPages) that reads like a stiff cocktail of Dashiell Hammett, Charles Bukowski, and Statler and Waldorf. Pizza Man's seen it all, from vehicular kitty-cide ("The sound was brief but sickening, for I knew I had extinguished another life force on this planet,") to belligerent drunks ("'You wanna go?' I asked, my hands starting to ball into fists,") and lonely ladies in motel rooms ("They're usually indifferent, they just want some pizza. I don't think I even register on their radar,"). He's also no stranger to grim genuflection: "Songs on my iPod that I would be ok with hearing, if it was the last song I heard: 'Sweet Virginia,' The Stones, 'Pancho & Lefty,' Nelson/Dylan, and 'Proud Mary,' Credence." Ride on, Pizza Man. (in Food and Drink Blogs) |
