Bennett Robot Works Humble robot smithy Gordon Bennett sculpts old-school miniature robots out of antique mechanical parts -- and we stand in awe. These android concoctions are jaw-droppingly cool. Bennett scours garbage dumps and garage sales to find the building blocks of his creations. Then, armed with such discarded gadgets as rotary phones, electric meters, safety deposit boxes, geiger counters, and brownie cameras, he crafts automatons like the shy Hannah or the menacing Tenna. Would that we had the entire platoon to do our evil bidding! Alas, this stuff is art, and it's priced accordingly. But we can still look and dream. If we could pick one, we'd probably go with the shapely Rambler ... or maybe the dastardly Detecto ... or the charming Little Wonder. (in Visual Arts) |
