Folkstreams Here's a nifty twist -- a specialty film site that offers pithy summaries, production details, and the films themselves. A joint effort from filmmaker Tom Davenport and the University of North Carolina, Folkstreams catalogs and presents documentaries about "American folk or roots culture." This treasure trove of Americana features documentaries about the people who make this country great: outsider artists, cowboy poets, medicine-show performers, Appalachian storytellers, and faith healers. Most of this stuff would be pretty hard to find, but with a solid broadband connection you can stream all of it. We particularly enjoyed Possum Trot, about a Mojave Desert folk artist who makes strange female dolls that talk (he does the voices). (in Movies & Film) |
