In Cold Blood: A Legacy In April of this year, just months before a new film brought Truman Capote scooting back into the limelight, the Lawrence Journal-World marked the 40th anniversary of "In Cold Blood," Capote's chronicle of the infamous Holcomb, Kansas murders. The newspaper series features background material on the main characters involved in the 1959 atrocity, a timeline, maps, and interviews and reactions from several key players who haven't spoken publicly in 45 years. Not surprisingly, many Holcomb residents haven't read the book. They're uncomfortable with the attention it's generated, and unhappy with several characterizations and fabricated elements in the story. And what was Capote like? "He was always center stage. There wasn't much (other) conversation." (in Literature > Authors) |
