3D Model of the Dymaxion Car Buckminster Fuller designed the Dymaxion Car to "achieve maximum output and service with minimum material input." It was 20 feet long, weighed less than 1,000 pounds, seated 11 (!), and ran on 3 wheels. It looked like a giant silver hot dog -- and was intended to serve as an auto, boat, and plane. Tragically for all fans of omni-medium transport, only three were ever built. With this site, Bucky fan Ben Discoe has lovingly assembled a multimedia homage to the Dymaxion, replete with historical chronology, nifty pictures, and updates on his quest to make a 3D model of the car. One other note: The Dymaxion got 50 miles to the gallon in 1933. The Buck-man was clearly ahead of his time. (in Automotive) |
