Crates and Barrels
Some  sites set out to raise money for disease research. Others aim to discover the meaning of life. This site's mission is a tad more modest -- to collect screenshots of all the crates and barrels that appear in video games. Surprisingly, their efforts make for compelling clicking. As any gamer can tell you, crates and barrels tend to pop up in all kinds of games. Donkey Kong threw barrels at Mario way back when, and Doom 3 uses them as target practice today. Same deal with crates. Once upon a time, Mega Man blasted them away, and now X-rated Grand Theft Auto features wooden boxes out in the field. It goes to show -- video games may have changed, but their designers are in no hurry to reinvent the crate, barrel, or wheel. (in Video Games) |
