Poets.org If the idea of poetry brings back painful memories of Grecian urns or demonic ravens, maybe it's time to come to grips with your fear. Do yourself a favor and peruse the revamped web site from the Academy of American Poets. It won't hurt -- but you'll need to set aside some quality time. It's like a literary Disneyland. Check out the large collection of poems and read biographies of famous poets. Better yet, listen to poets reading their work. You'll hear Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken," Langston Hughes' "The Negro Speaks of Rivers," and Gwendolyn Brooks' "We Real Cool." You'll even find advice on starting a poetry book club and downloadable guides to Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass or Emily Dickinson's Collected Poems. All this may make you want to drop the Danielle Steele and head to the beach with a good book of poems. (in Poetry)
