FARM-Africa Since 1985, U.K. charity FARM-Africa has been working to reduce poverty throughout sub-Saharan Africa by supporting small-scale farmers and herders. (FARM stands for Food and Agricultural Research Management.) Through programs in Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda, the group offers practical expertise and support on sustainable methods of working the land and caring for livestock. Donations to FARM-Africa can go for such seemingly simple things as a milking goat; training in animal health; a beehive and beekeeping equipment; or tools, seed, and fertilizer. But brief case studies recount how these basic things wrought life-altering changes. FARM-Africa's ongoing efforts improve the livelihoods -- and lives -- of some of the world's poorest citizens.
