Freecycle If "free" sounds like the most beautiful word in the language, then have we got a site for you. Founded in an effort to reduce landfills, Freecycle offers community-based forums where people give (and get) stuff for, well, free. We recently spotted offerings that ranged from "silk shirt, 29 inch waist," to the manual for an '89 Honda Hawk, to "various hand bags." You can also post what you want in the hopes that another freecycler has it to give. For instance, we noted messages seeking a book on kidney stones, an old computer monitor, and a fish tank. Because it's group-based you need to register -- and it looks like many have: The number of Freecycle communities currently tops 2,500. So as you throw open your closets for spring cleaning, think twice before you call it junk and head to the dump. (in Shopping) |
