Punk Rock Flyer Archive 1982-1984 Loud! Fast! Angry! Other stuff! Shaved Neck serves it all up in this archive of punk rock flyers and handbills collected between 1982 and 1984 in Tucson, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. It's everything you'd want from a punk archive: the crude images, the pissed-off politics, the mocking band names. Don't miss the accounts of the concerts, such as this Black Flag show featuring bombastic drums, growling amps, and, er, drool. Or this "classic" Vandals gig that involved an overactive fog machine and -- a flute? The flyers, folded and photocopied and crammed with images and text, exude the do-it-yourself ethos of hardcore punk. The bands, with their hair, their clothes, and their attitude, exude the flip side of '80s conservatism. (in Rock and Pop) |
