Ukulele Books Peter Thomas is an award-winning Santa Cruz, California, booksmith who likes to strum his ukulele from time to time. Working under the "Two Great Tastes" philosophy of artistic miscegenation, Mr. Thomas has crafted some jaw-droppingly nifty books from scavenged ukuleles. Each is a unique, fully functioning work of art. For instance, the Jacob's Ladder features an "excavated" book inside the neck of the instrument. The aptly titled Cabinet of Curiosities displays a bewitching Hawaiian diorama. The Flip Book has a hand-cranked moving picture story inside the sound hole. And the illustrated text of A Brief History of the Ukulele accordions out from two halves of a bisected Hawaiian Four Stringer. And guess what? They all play. You can read them and then strum them.
