Lest We Forget: The Triumph Over Slavery Slavery left an indelible mark on the face of the United States, and the lessons learned from its existence and eventual eradication is something that will never be forgotten. The UN proclaimed 2004 as the International Year to commemorate the struggle against slavery and its abolition, and this exhibit chronicles the journey. It began with the long march from Africa, the proliferation of the transatlantic trade, with all the while slaves having to endure dehumanizing conditions. In the midst of this, family life, religion, literacy, and education all helped define the slave culture, and that culture has left a profound stamp on much of America today. Always remember.
