Alexander Hamilton: The Man Who Made Modern America Men like Alexander Hamilton don't come along very often. He led a life that was equal parts adventure and public service, rising from humble beginnings to become one of America's founding fathers. Obviously there's much to admire and appreciate about the man on the $10 bill, and this site from the New York Historical Society acts as a great resource. Here you can explore Hamilton's life, from his orphanhood in the Virgin Islands to his famous duel with Vice President Aaron Burr. Over the course of his brilliant (and often controversial) career, he served as the country's first Secretary of the Treasury, fought under General George Washington, and authored the Federalist Papers, which helped explain the Constitution to the masses. That's a full life, and sadly, one that's been somewhat forgotten. Give this site a read and reverse the trend. (in U.S. History) |
