Hidden Lives Revealed The way in which society cares for disadvantaged and orphaned children has changed drastically over the years. An excellent account of the way things used to be can be found at Hidden Lives Revealed. The site details the history of the Waifs and Strays Society, an English organization that cared for over 22,000 children from 1881 to 1918 and features photographs and case files that provide an intriguing look at the social order of the time. Visitors can also explore a Virtual Children's Home, learn what it was like to be homeless, and enjoy some pictures of the society's kids having some much deserved fun. While some of the stories are heartbreaking, reading about the caregivers and the good they accomplished inspires hope. (in Cultures and Groups)
