Posters American Style The humble poster has long been a simple yet effective way to grab the attention of the masses. Whatever message they were designed to send the public -- from pleas for patriotism to offers on consumer goods -- these posters capture the abundance of creativity that proliferated in 20th-century America. Curator Therese Heyman has done the hard work, combing through public and private collections to amass the best for this exhibition for the Smithsonian American Art Museum. She's included posters featuring graphic, intense images and short, powerful captions that are meant to appeal to a mass audience. Enjoy this look at a potent cocktail of commerce, advocacy, and art -- true American style. (in Posters) |
