Stockstock Film Festival Stock footage is the Hamburger Helper of the movie world. Mix in this low-budget solution to enliven the raw ground beef of ideas, and you could follow in the footsteps of immortal director Ed Wood. But could you cook up an entire short film based solely on stock footage? Even schlockmeister Ed might not be auteur enough for the challenge posed on this site by Seattle film editors. It works like this: You pay a nominal entry fee and receive 30 minutes of stock footage that you are expected to transform into an original short no longer than three minutes. Constructing a narrative to weave the footage together is a tough task, but check out a few entries from 2003 for inspiration. This fun film fest may start with cut-and-paste creations, but it winds up with a sublime new recipe for cinema. (in Movies & Film) |
