Serco TransArctic Expedition These days extreme sports are all the rage, but the word extreme has become diluted thanks to overuse. We now have extreme makeovers, extreme violence, and even extreme Doritos competing for our attention. All this "extremeness" leaves the folks who actually do push the boundaries operating with a hyperbole deficit. Covering one man's quest to do something never before accomplished -- hike solo from Russia to Canada via the North Pole -- this site will document a journey that truly warrants the "extreme" label. Traversing 1,200 miles of treacherous frozen earth, Ben Saunders aims to cross the Arctic Ocean by himself on a pair of skis. You can read his dispatches as he waits for the right moment to begin his trek, pore over his biography, and peruse the over 300 pounds of equipment he'll haul on his heroic hike. There's also a place where you can wish Ben luck, and with temperatures dropping as low as -49º F, he's going to need it. |
