World Trade Center Site Memorial Competition In April 2003, the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation began what would become the biggest design competition in history. More than 5,000 people from 63 nations entered the World Trade Center Site Memorial Competition to honor those who died in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993. The winning entry, "proposes a space that resonates with the feelings of loss and absence that were generated by the destruction of the World Trade Center and the taking of thousands of lives." This site offers insight into the winning design and encourages you to browse the 5,200 entries that didn't win, including ideas from Albania to Venezuela. Remarkable endeavors, the site and competition demonstrate that compassion and support transcend nationalities and borders. (in Architecture) |
