Bernard Herrmann Society There's simply no arguing that Psycho's shower scene is among the scariest moments in movie history. Thanks in large part to the brilliant score of piercing violins and somber cellos, the brutal yet cinematically beautiful death of Marion Crane has become the stuff of legend. Bernard Herrmann composed the piece, and, as movie buffs well know, his work extends beyond the spine-chilling "Ode to Norman Bates." Mr. Herrmann's resume is stacked with classics -- he wrote music for Citizen Kane, Vertigo, and North by Northwest, to highlight just a few. The Bernard Herrmann Society celebrates the artist's life and work with essays, sounds, and even an interview with longtime friend Leonard Bernstein. Learn more about the maestro, and, dare we say, whistle while you surf. (in Movies & Film) |
