Afterlife: Streatham Cemetery Photographer Jonathan Clark spent a year capturing the melancholic beauty of an English cemetery. In springtime, colorful blossoms grow out of green graves as birds chirp in the background and ethereal lights flutter past names faded on tombstones. Summer sees grasses dance around stone cherubs, accompanied by a brooding soundtrack. Autumn's golden leaves fall like tears from a mourner. As winter approaches, rising tombstones replace budding flowers and bring a sense of gloom, but this dark season also yields the most striking photos. The country church radiates peace from within its snow-decked eaves. Move your cursor over some images and dead eyes will open while crows call in the distance. Haunting and serene, this collection brings a place of death to life. (in Death and Dying) |
