Statesman or Skatesman?
Last  Christmas, Jason Whiley and his dad entered into a spirited debate about politics, a fairly common occurrence when families get together for the holidays. However, this debate centered on the question of whether politicians engaged in silly endeavors such as skateboarding, rollerblading, or go-karting. Jason wrote to hundreds of British politicians asking if they ever participated in said activities, and to his surprise many not only replied, they provided pictures too. Although a number of the names will be unfamiliar to Americans, there is something sublimely sweet about two former Prime Ministers having fun -- Margaret Thatcher, aka "The Iron Lady," riding a toboggan and Lord James Callaghan precariously perched on a skateboard, an event he apparently no longer remembers. "Statesman or skatesman?" is the question posed, but regardless of the answer, this site is jolly good fun. (in Political Humor) |
