Anne Frank the Writer: An Unfinished Story Many of us were introduced to the horrors of the Holocaust through the eyes of this girl and her diary. Though she was only a teen when she wrote her story, the precociousness, charm, and sensitivity of a mature writer in the face of the atrocities she witnessed leapt from the pages to captivate millions of readers. What would she have accomplished had she survived? The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum brings to front Anne's other writings -- 300 pages of fairy tales, short stories, and essays penned while hiding in an annex her family called home and neatly transcribed into five notebooks to resemble published novels. See her diary as never before, with multimedia photos, anecdotes, a zoom-in tool, and the only video footage of Anne known to exist. She wonders if she'll ever realize her potential and make her mark as a writer while at the same time inventing tales about Ellen the Fairy. Museum curators, Anne's cousin Buddy, and other teens share their thoughts on her life and work. Take some time and spend a few moments in Anne's world. (in The Holocaust) |
