Identity Crisis: The Many Faces of the Man of Steel
Since  his introduction in 1934, Superman has maintained his status as a premiere pop icon. This scholarly yet accessible site explores the legend of Superman and what it means to society. Why is he so deeply embedded in our cultural consciousness? Perhaps because he grew out of the late 19th-century tradition of Western frontier heroes.
