The Brush Creek Follies Starting in 1938 and continuing for nearly 20 years, the familiar opening theme of KMBC's "Brush Creek Follies" signaled to fans that down-home harmonies and heartland humor were about to begin. Broadcast out of Kansas City and across the Midwest, the show drew faithful listeners to their radios on Saturday nights to enjoy the antics of a cast of characters that included top-notch bluegrass players Bud and Spud, and Hiram Mortimer Higsby, the show's emcee and "radio's original rube." Don't miss the "Follies Favorites," an homage to some of the earliest western bands and country singers where you can listen to the Oklahoma Wranglers perform "Lone Buckaroo" and watch an excerpt of "Life on Red Horse Ranch," complete with a toe-tapping performance by the famous Texas Rangers. This rip-roarin' hootenanny signed off for good in the mid-1950s, but thanks to this site you can experience all the singing, dancing, and fun that was the Brush Creek Follies. (in Music History) |
