Beauty Check When it comes to the five senses, most people can agree on a few things: a rose smells sweet, a lemon tastes sour, and a porcupine feels prickly. Can we all agree about the attributes of physical beauty and aesthetics? Is beauty a fickle trait left to the eye of the beholder, or are there tangible, universal characteristics to beautiful faces? If so, what is the evolutionary reason? This German site is the result of a research project seeking to elucidate three ideas: why some faces are more beautiful that others, how scientists unravel the mystery of beauty, and what connection is between physical beauty and social power. An intriguing feature morphs an average face into an attractive face -- you can see how subtle differences in facial spacing and symmetry enhance or detract from attractiveness. It explains why we find baby faces alluring, and even goes so far as to create an über-German virtual babe. This provocative overview challenges you to look at faces with a more discerning eye.
