Deep Throat: Uncovered One of the greatest political mysteries of the 20th century has been declared solved by a group of savvy journalism students and their proud professor at the University of Illinois. The identity of the mysterious Watergate informant who helped bust Tricky Dick has long been the subject of much speculation, but was never revealed by The Washington Post. This crack team spent four years gathering clues and examining the FBI files to come to a solid conclusion: former White House deputy counsel Fred Fielding is the elusive Deep Throat. From basic clues to hard evidence, including six specific instances of insider knowledge that Fielding was privy to and Deep Throat provided, the students insist all fingers point directly at Fielding. All the information and clues were found in 16,000 pages of Watergate-related FBI documents available to the public. Even the traditional media has chimed in with a response to the students' efforts. Click around and decide if you think they have their man. (in U.S. History > Presidents) |
