Airchive From the glory days of jet travel through the mergers, recessions, and bankruptcies, something about airplanes continues to appeal to many. Plane-spotters will delight in the timetables, maps, and ads from over 30 mostly domestic airlines displayed on this high-flying ode to air travel. Site creator Chris Sloan recounts the tragic tale of Pan Am as well as that of the legendary TWA, which stopped flying after 75 years in the air travel business. Sloan also covers lesser-known regional carriers, such as St. Louis-based Ozark Airlines and sunny National Airlines. The three incarnations of Braniff between 1953 and 1992 get their due, alongside memorabilia from a few airlines still in the biz, such as American. Catch sight of flashy British tails at Heathrow and enjoy plane-spotting in Nepal. Don't miss the vintage and scrapped planes, including the very first Boeing 747 and a graveyard of decapitated, blind, and stripped planes. This site makes the skies look pretty friendly.
