The Pyongyang Metro The closed society of North Korea has been in the spotlight lately due to plenty of saber rattling from the bouffant-blessed Kim Jong Il. This glimpse into the metro system running under the city of Pyongyang provides an interesting look at a culture that remains largely invisible. The statistics section delves into the history and construction of the rail line -- describing secret government tunnels and stations that double as massive military bunkers. The maps and trains sections both offer educated guesses on how many stops there are and what types of trains are in service. You'll also see rare pictures of little-seen underground landmarks, including the "Great Leaders" who grace the inside of every train. At your final stop, you can "enjoy" the government-sanctioned music forcibly piped into each station. (in Recreation & Sports) |
