PhotoLondon
This exceptional site aggregates a number of incredible London-themed photographs from the collections of the Museum of London, the Guildhall Library, the Metropolitan Archives, the Westminster Archives, and the National Monuments Record. Even though it's not a complete online archive, there's a taste of what you would find if you visited any of these collections. Each photo is accompanied by a detailed historical description, lending a photojournalistic perspective to the city's many faces. The Photo Gallery offers a scenic starting point -- you can view a sample from each collection, browse the entire gallery, or head to the homepage of an associate member to view more images. Highlights include a framed shot of the Tower Bridge from the National Monuments Record, a post-Blitz shot of the bomb-damaged All Hallows Church from the Guild Library Print Room, and a late-19th-century photo of a bustling Piccadilly Circus from the Museum of London collection. Job well done, lads.
