Centropa Historians and journalists from 11 Eastern European countries are realizing their goal to create the largest online library of Jewish family photographs and oral histories from both the pre- and post-Holocaust eras. Witness to a Jewish Century is a searchable database of family pictures and memories, and much of the information comes directly from interviews with elderly Jews in Central and Eastern Europe. The section is accompanied by the Contemporary Archive, which is full of photos and detail about the region's Jewish communities today. Slideshows from the Witness and Contemporary Projects give a touching overview of history and everyday life. The travel section visits Hungarian cities and towns, while the eating section provides mouth-watering recipes for chicken and matzoh ball soup and Balkan soul food. Sections filled with historical reports, fiction and memories, field notes, and current news round out this rich look at the complex story of Jewish life in Eastern Europe.
