The Cowbell Project This site's clanging originality was inspired by a Saturday Night Live sketch in which Christopher Walken plays a producer who insists the only thing Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper" needs for success is "More cowbell!" We all know rock 'n' roll combines guitar, drums, and bass to form a musical bouillabaisse, but only the cowbell signals that it's truly time to rock! Search for songs featuring cowbells or scan the list for favorites -- you can even listen to several of the cowbell-banging beats. And don't think for a second that it's a hackneyed instrument. The Beatles weren't shy about using the bovine bell, and songs by Hendrix, Zeppelin, and Springsteen have all featured the mellifluous ringer. The site has even taken the liberty of adding a cowbell to some songs -- you really haven't lived until you've heard a bell complementing Billy Idol's "Flesh for Fantasy." Clang on, America!
