Hemingway at 100 Paris. Havana. Pamplona, Spain. Kansas City, Missouri? This midwestern town doesn't usually make the list of cities associated with writer Ernest Hemingway. But it was there that Hemingway landed his first newspaper job, covering the police and emergency-room beats for the Kansas City Star. Kansas City is also where "Papa" witnessed the birth of his second son, which deeply influenced the finale to A Farewell to Arms. Fragments of newly discovered writings reveal Hemingway's reflections on the town, as do letters from his early newspaper stint there. "Kansas City was a strange and wonderful place," Hemingway wrote. The connection between author and city was brief, but not insignificant either to Hemingway or the city's residents. One local woman even turned her love of Hemingway's work into a monumental, scholarly achievement. The site also provides essays, reflections from son Patrick, a timeline, and more.
