Essex Mountain Sanatorium At the height of its operation, this sanatorium was considered one of the finest institutions of its kind. It operated for nearly 70 years in relative anonymity, perched atop a mountain in Verona, New Jersey. In 1977, the facility closed its doors, and since then, mystery has surrounded the building on the hill. This site delves into the history of the sanatorium and examines reported hauntings and creepy tales. Read decades-old issues of "The Buzzer," a newsletter printed and published by patients as occupational therapy. You can almost feel the cold, damp air as you scroll through a pictorial history of the strange, old place. You'll find something lurking around every corner, so don't be surprised if you find yourself clutching your mouse just a little tighter than usual. (in Regional > United States) |
