Boombox Museum Where have all the boomboxes gone? In today's world of Walkmans and MP3 players, the big, bad boombox has gone the way of the Dodo. But true fans keep the bass bumpin' in this virtual museum full of photos, facts, and accounts of these portable stereos. From their birth in the mid '70s through their golden age in the early '80s to their sad demise in 1989, ghetto blasters are given their props. There are even pictures of boomboxes from movies like 1984's Breakin' and 1985's Krush Groove, which featured LL Cool J explaining why he can't live without his radio. In the late '80s, shoddy craftsmanship and tinny sound killed the boombox's popularity, but aficionados like LL will always stay true to the ghetto blaster and "kick the volume way past 10."
