Projections: A Futurist at the Movies Futurists don't predict the future -- they simply evaluate possibilities, scenarios, and probabilities. Josh Calder does the same for the movies on this site. From A.I. - Artificial Intelligence to X-Men, he discusses whether or not the films present a coherent view of the future and create plausible circumstances and technologies. Some movies get high ratings because they address issues that society is facing right now, such as human genetic engineering (featured in Gattaca). Others get low ratings because they depend on unlikely technologies, such as time travel (the focus of The Terminator). While you may not want to base your movie choices on these reviews, they will definitely give you something to think about after you see the latest sci-fi blockbuster. |
