Timeline of Art History
Thanks  to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, you can travel through thousands of years of art online. Begin at 40,000 BC with the rock paintings of the Australian Aborigines, wander ahead to 8,000 BC to ogle the wonders of Ancient Egypt, then contrast the stone-cut churches of Lalibela in present-day Ethiopia with the gothic cathedrals of medieval France. You can browse the site by historical era, geography, or theme. The site's timeline ends at 1400 AD, but the Met promises it's a work in progress. After all, you can't rush great art.
