Van Gogh and Gauguin From pink shrimps to sunflowers, this evocative and colorful Flash site explores the relationship between two Impressionistic painters, Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin. Mouse over images to read from the artists' letters, and click on different parts of a painting for more detail or to move to another vignette. Sparse music and subtle animation move you through the rocky yet productive nine weeks Van Gogh and Gauguin spend together in the south of France. Their collaboration ended when, in a fit of madness, Van Gogh cut off part of his ear. The Background section spells out the history of the artists, their lives, their letters, their painting techniques, their subject matter, and the lasting influence of their friendship.
