U.S. Steel Gary Works Photograph Collection This collection of more than 2,200 photographs documents the creation of the world's largest steel mill and one of the nation's largest planned corporate towns: Gary, Indiana. Many of the photos focus on the factory buildings and construction machinery, but the collection also includes photos of the parks, schools, and people that formed the community of Gary. Documented by U.S. Steel photographers, this collection illustrates how cities literally "sprung up" at the height of America's industrial revolution. (in Photography Exhibits)
