The Secret Lives of Numbers Pick a number between 0 and 1,000,000. Once you've chosen, head over to a fascinating site brought to you by the brilliant minds at turbulence.org. They began by performing a massive Internet search for numbers between 0 and 1,000,000, then counted the number of times each integer was mentioned in a web document. A mind-blowing Java application renders a complex interactive graph that charts the relative popularity of each number. Whether you picked 27 or 94,587, you'll see exactly how many times that particular number is referenced on the Web. Be forewarned, the data is RAM intensive, but it's worth the wait to see the mysterious world of numbers presented in such an artful and engaging way. (in Numbers) |
